We are having a party at Polarn O. Pyret to celebrate turning 40 years old! To help celebrate, we want to share two simple and fun crafts that are perfect for parties. Get your children involved and make party planning a ton of fun!

partyrabbithatsDo This:

  1. Begin by tracing the hat pattern (see PDF below). Place a piece of thin paper (such as parchment paper) over the pattern and trace the lines. Cut out your pattern, place it on a piece of coloured card stock and trace along the edges. Draw the ears as well. Remember to cut the ears at an angle at the bottom – this will help them stay on the hat better.
  2. Cut out the hat and ears with scissors. Make the eyes, nose and mouth with a pen.
  3. Roll the hat into a cone shape and affix the edge with a glue gun or double-sided tape.
  4. Attach the ears with the glue gun and make two small holes on each side of the hat. Stick the thin elastic cord or string through the holes and tie a knot on the inside so that the cord stays in place.

    Pinata

    • Scissors

    • Colored paper

      pinataDo this:

      1. Start by cutting out two identical figures, for example a cloud. Cut a long, thin strip of cardboard and bend it along the figure so that it can be shaped more easily. This will be the edge of the cloud.
      2. Tape the long strip along the edge of one of the cloud sections. Make a hole at the top of the cloud with a needle or a sharp pen and stick a string through the hole so the figure can be hung up.
      3. Fill the cloud with sweets and confetti or anything else festive before placing the other part of the cloud on top as a lid. Tape the figure like you did in step 2.
      4. Cut long strips of tissue paper and make fringe in the same way as when making Christmas crackers. Layer several pieces of paper before cutting to speed up the process. Begin by glueing a strip at the bottom of the cloud and continue upwards; the cloud will look like it has fur when you are finished. Finish up by glueing on paper eyes and a mouth.
