In Sweden, people wash their outerwear considerably less than we do in the U.S. It simply is not good for the life of the outerwear to over-wash it. It also is not good for the environment to over-wash clothes in general. At Polarn O. Pyret, we advise our customers that once you have washed one of our waterproof garments more than approximately 50 times, the “waterproofness” of that item will start to break down. A method to prevent this is by spot cleaning your outerwear with our Swedish Eco Outerwear Sponge Cloth. Watch our handy little video to understand how to use the cloth. Briefly, you need to wet the cloth, and then spot clean the area which shows dirt. It is perfectly fine to …

You may be lucky enough to be going skiing this spring. But what clothes do kids need on the ski slopes? We have a list of must-haves to keep them warm and dry all holiday long. Further down there’s a quick clothes guide that you can easily capture as a screenshot and save on your phone. Ski slopes clothes list: Layer 1: thermal layer that wicks away moisture. We recommend our wool underwear. Also take thin wool socks that don’t bunch up inside ski boots. Layer 2: a cozy middle layer in fleece or wool terry keeps children warm all day. Layer 3: for younger children, who may not be spending as much time on the slopes, a winter overall is practical. And for slightly …

    October 26, 2018 by Polarn O. Pyret

Treebath is an after school program in NYC and their goal is to get kids (and adults!) outdoors. They want to help overcome the struggle of weather conditions that are not typically comfortable and help find and explore nature in a big city. Treebath’s values goes hand in hand and with Polarn O. Pyret’s! So we joined hands, and are now working together to get kids geared up for all weather conditions while enjoying the outdoors no matter the weather. When and why did you decide to start an outdoor program for children? Oscar: A couple of years ago we realized our city children were not getting outside as much as they should. We went looking for after school programs that were outdoors, or nature …

  5. The Layering Principle

    0

    September 19, 2018 by Polarn O. Pyret

The layering principle is just as simple as it is ingenious. Dressing your kids in layers will keep them warm and dry. But it’s not the clothes themselves that provide the most warmth – it’s the air between each layer. Hold in the warmth, let out the moisture, and keep the rain and snow at bay! LAYER 1: BASE LAYER – NEXT TO THE SKIN The purpose of the base layer is to keep the body warm. Children who run around and play outdoors when it’s cold generate heat and moisture that need to be transported away from their bodies. A wool base layer is warm even if it gets damp and a polyester base layer, while generally not as warm, wicks moisture away from …

Our soft shell jacket is windproof but still has good breathability. It’s also water resistant, with a water column measurement of >3000 mm, and has a soft fleece lining. This is what makes it brilliant as both a cozy middle layer and a jacket for milder days. You could say it’s a 2-in-1 jacket that can be used all year round.

    Windproof, waterproof and extra durable
Our shell jacket makes an excellent Layer 3 outer layer. Its job is to protect you from difficult weather conditions. So our shell jacket is both windproof and waterproof, and has a storm flap for extra protection against cold air and rain. The jacket is also made of extra-durable material.

Retain heat, wick away moisture, and keep the rain, snow and wind out.
The layering principle is a brilliant way to weatherproof your child! They will be warm enough on the chilliest winter day and cool enough on a mild spring day, when they can easily unzip or remove a layer. And they will always be wearing breathable clothing perfect for fun activities in any kind of weather.
