Outerwear lives longer with Swedish Eco Outerwear Sponge Cloth!
0November 13, 2018 by Polarn O. Pyret
In Sweden, people wash their outerwear considerably less than we do in the U.S. It simply is not good for the life of the outerwear to over-wash it. It also is not good for the environment to over-wash clothes in general. At Polarn O. Pyret, we advise our customers that once you have washed one of our waterproof garments more than approximately 50 times, the “waterproofness” of that item will start to break down. A method to prevent this is by spot cleaning your outerwear with our Swedish Eco Outerwear Sponge Cloth. Watch our handy little video to understand how to use the cloth. Briefly, you need to wet the cloth, and then spot clean the area which shows dirt. It is perfectly fine to …

Happy Midsummer!
0June 16, 2017 by Polarn O. Pyret
The Swedish tradition of holding a Midsummer Party is a lovely way of bringing family and friends, young and old together. In Mid-June, school is out and nature has burst into life. It seems like the sun never sets. In fact, in the north of Sweden it doesn’t, and in the south only for an hour or two. This calls for celebration! Whatever the weather decides to do, the celebration goes ahead all across Sweden on Midsummer Eve which is the Friday closest to the summer solstice, this year it is Friday June 23rd. Swedes love Midsummer, and here we’ll show you how to hold a Midsummer party of your own! Midsummer Pole The essential item, and takes some effort but believe us it is …

HOW OUR CLOTHING IS MADE
0January 4, 2017 by Polarn O. Pyret
How is a piece of clothing actually created? What is the process beforehand? Designer Susan has the answers to these questions as well as a few more! Everything begins with a discussion regarding which print the garment is to have. Our print designers then draw it. Together the designers consider different color schemes and then decide which ones will be on the prints for the garments. When this has been done, an original is sent to the supplier for a print trial on fabric. Testing is the next step. The supplier sends garments in accordance with the instructions on the garment sketch and measurement list, and we test them at the head office. The design assistant and pattern maker check the fit and make sure …

Our Initiative for Sustainable Production
0March 4, 2016 by Polarn O. Pyret
Polarn O. Pyret supports more sustainably produced cotton As we buy large quantities of cotton and consider our corporate responsibility extends beyond our production, we became a member of BCI in September 2013. The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) was established in 2005 to help make global cotton production more sustainable. By labeling and promoting “Better Cotton” as a sustainable commodity, the BCI helps make global cotton production better for producers, for the environment where cotton is grown and for the future of the sector/cotton industry. Each year, Polarn O. Pyret aims to increase the amount of Better Cotton we source to contribute to the more sustainable production of cotton. By buying Better Cotton, Polarn O. Pyret helps BCI minimize the damaging effects associated with traditional …

We Make Clothes for Children.
0February 16, 2016 by Polarn O. Pyret
Not for girls. Not for boys. We make clothes for children. The bodies of boys and girls are very similar before they reach their teens. We work with clothes for children. So why would we make them different clothes? It may seem obvious, but our belief that both boys and girls need good fit and function makes us unique. We aim to make the world’s best shell jacket, knee sock, t-shirt and sun hat. Who wears what – and what colors – is up to you. But both boys and girls need good looking clothes that are strong and versatile. That’s what unisex means to us. Polarn O.Pyret – unisex since 1976. “We wanted our children to grow up as people, not boys or …

December 13th is Santa Lucia
1December 13, 2015 by Polarn O. Pyret
December 13th is St Lucia Day, a time for singing, mulled spiced wine, and saffron buns. Originally a Catholic feast day, Lucia is a special day that is celebrated all around Sweden, especially in schools and nurseries. The day starts with a Lucia procession early in the morning when it is still dark outside. Lucia herself enters the room wearing a long white Lucia dress with a red silk ribbon around her waist and a crown of candles on her head. She is followed by singing flower girls with glitter in their hair, star boys wearing cone hats, and last but not least, mischievous gingerbread men and elves. It is a delightful and much loved tradition with candles and holiday songs that for many people …
