Getting Outside In the Winter

As a single mom in Central Ohio I try to spend as much quality time with my son as possible. One of our favorite winter activities is skiing. We have a ski resort about an hour away, and we try to go once a week. It is great exercise, and my son and I have a blast together.

One of the keys to staying warm while skiing is layering. My son always starts out with his PO.P long johns as a base layer. They move with him and help wick away any sweat he generates while in the terrain park or moguls.

I am also an avid runner, and my son is an aspiring runner. As I said before, I’m in Ohio, and we don’t have the best weather. I am a transplant and have decided that I need to make the most of my area and get outside no matter what the weather. Last year I set a goal of running outdoors all winter. Thankfully, we had a warm winter and I was able to accomplish this goal. I have continued with that goal this winter and have found that a four to six mile run in 20-30 degree temps is absolutely exhilarating! I feel so energized! Because of this I have set a goal this year of getting my son outside almost daily to play. Sometimes he accompanies me on short runs or brings along his scooter for longer runs.

How do you spend your time outside in the winter?
