Our ECO symbol the cloud proudly points the way to products that were designed and manufactured with extra consideration for the environment. We call it ECO – Environmentally Conscious Option.
OUR ECO LABEL RANGE
Products with our ECO label have been manufactured with extra special concern for the environment, over and above our standard requirements related to the use of chemicals and water footprint. ECO label products are made from either materials with a lower environmental impact, such as organically grown cotton, recycled synthetic fibers or the entire production chain is certified by the independent body GOTS.
You can find more information on what makes each particular product an environmentally conscious option on the product hang tag in-store or in the online product description.
Our ECO range now includes:
GOTS, Global Organic Textile Standard
GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing and certification standard for organic fibers. Over the course of 2014, all our Classic Stripe garments and Best Basics in red, white and blue that were previously labelled with the Nordic Swan Eco label will be labelled with the GOTS symbol on the neck label instead. Polarn O. Pyret is the first Swedish childrenswear brand to gain GOTS certification for our ECO range.
All cotton products with our ECO label are made of cotton grown in accordance with organic methods without the use of chemicals such as synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Organic cotton farmers are also prohibited from using genetically modified cotton (GMO). Products made from organic cotton must be kept separate throughout the entire production and accompanied by certification of their origin.
The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from fishing nets and excess materials from the textile industry. Several of our shell garments contain recycled polyamide.
The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from PET bottles or excess materials from the textile industry. Products within this range include selected fleece jackets and some of our shell outerwear. Choosing our ECO fleece and shell range means you are helping to reduce the use of oil and minimizing the environmental impact related to the production of new synthetic fibers.
In addition to buying ECO, you can help the environment by remembering these tips:
Maintain Your Clothes
Take care of your clothes and they’ll last longer. Mend them if you can, and don’t wash them more than necessary. Outerwear can often be spot-washed with a damp cloth instead of machine washing. This will also save on energy, water and detergent. Ask about “spare parts” in your Polarn O. Pyret shop – new foot straps, buttons and repair patches are available for some items.
Reuse & thredUP
We want our clothes to be used many times and by many kids. If it were up to us, not one single Polarn O. Pyret garment would ever be thrown away. That is why we demand such high standards of quality on all of our products. When you don’t need the clothes any more, give them away as a gift or sell them second hand. It’s a win-win for both you and the environment. Try thredUP! We hope you’ve had a chance to take advantage of this online resale service that allows you to resell your gently used (or almost new clothing) to other families around the country and receive a Polarn O. Pyret customer credit in return. If you haven’t, we hope you’ll give it a try. It’s a great way to keep your kids’ outgrown, but still wearable, clothes playing and having fun. Do you need some thredUP bags? They come with pre-paid shipping labels and take up to 10lbs of clothes! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to send you out some bags for free!
