To experience a Swedish Midsummer festival is to take a step back into time. You might think the New York Times photos (above) are from some countryside event in a small town (and they are). However, they do truly capture typical Midsummer Festivals around Sweden.
Midsummer is celebrated on the Friday following the Summer Solstice–June 21. As luck would have it, this year it’s on the actual day itself.
If you’re in the NYC area, try to attend the Midsummer celebration in Battery Park.
